Need help with the Linux distro for a music and video Jukebox?
Hi, I´m have a lot of experience with MS operating system, since DOS 3.0, but I´m a newbie in Linux. I need some recommendation for the Linux distro and the packages to use for using a old 400 mhz with 128 RAM that I will transform in a Music and video Jukebox. I will use a standard touchscreen lcd, and a regular hard drive, maybe around 20 gigs. I like to use it also as a media server, with a wireless card, in case I install other Multimedia devices, like a 360. but that is not necessary. also i don´t need to play dvds on it, only regular divx and mpeg files, maybe some rmvb i have. also i like to have a simple interface, in the same lines as this: http://www.virtualmusicjukebox.com/

Ok, I will probably get flamed for this answer by the 'don't ever pay for Linux crowd' but if you are completely new to Linux then you would probably want to try Linspire Linux.
They have everything that you want and a lot more but it will cost you a one time out of the pocket expense of $30 because it is a commercial distribution.
You can buy it at Wal-Mart, Circuit City, Microcenter, and many other places or on line.
I know that everyone expects that you shouldn't have to pay anything for Linux but Linspire is well worth the initial cost because you will get access to thousands of great programs (98% are free) and free program installation and free support anytime you need it. (yes, they will help you out for free).
If you decide to go with Linspire just get the basic version because you will not need to by the "Gold membership" or "Surf Safe" or "Virus Protection"
Just $30 for the basic version and that is all you will ever have to spend, everything else is free.
Once you learn the basics then you can try somthing else or stay with Linspire.
(Most people that try Linspire stay with it)
